Following exercise helps the learners to practice where to use “was” and “were”.
The sentences are built in a way that the learner understands when and where the past tense “be” verb is used.
Further, they understand that there are certain clue words that we usually find in past tense sentences; such as yesterday, last week, last Monday, last year etc.

“Be” verb in the past tense is used to communicate past states. There are two forms; “was” and “were”. “Was” is used with singular subjects whereas “were” is used with plural subjects.
